Expert panel GFFA 2025 Friday, 16 January 2026, 1:30 – 3:00 pm, Berlin, City Cube (exhibition ground)
Securing global food production through sustainable water supply – technologies and adaptation strategies from the perspective of agriculture and agricultural engineering

Around the world, there is a growing number of regions where agriculture is having to adapt due to declining and increasingly volatile water availability. As a result, more and more farmers are being forced to implement practical alternatives to their previous farming methods. In order to use water resources more sustainably, national and international organizations are working with the responsible governments to develop appropriate action strategies. Adapted agriculture is the basis for ensuring food security in the future.
In this context, the transfer of knowledge on humus formation and regenerative or water-conserving agriculture is an important factor for success. Advances in digitalization and plant breeding also help to counteract the effects of water scarcity.
The panelists will present the strategies, technologies and management methods required to implement more environmentally friendly water use in agriculture in particular, from their respective perspectives. Representatives from the FAO and GIZ will report on how they support adaptation strategies worldwide, while the representative from the Global Farmer Network and from the agricultural engineering industry will explain which technologies they are relying on to promote sustainable agriculture.

2.) Mary Boote, Chief Executive Officer, Global Farmer Network/USA
3.) Thomas Breuer, Planning officer, giz/Germany
